Bringing a 1978 Porsche 928 back to life
Kyle and his dad, Chuck, are restoring an early US-spec 928 the hard way: by hand, one bagged and labeled part at a time. This is where we post the progress, the plans and the budget.
The story so far
Our 928 spent about five years baking in the sun. The paint is tired, the seals have turned to crumbs, and the original cork-tan interior is cracked and faded. Underneath, it’s an early 928 that still has its original factory labels, the classic “phone dial” wheels, and a full set of factory workshop manuals.
The plan is a full restoration: strip and repaint the body in its factory Petrol Blue Metallic, rebuild the interior from the floor up, replace every tired seal and sun-damaged plastic piece, and rewire the car with modern aircraft-grade wire while keeping the factory plugs.
Latest progress
Both doors came off the car and went up on stands so we can strip them and get at the wiring, window regulators and speaker cavities. The original factory door-jamb labels are still on the car.
Where it’s headed
Factory Petrol Blue Metallic (code 376) with a little extra pearl outside. Inside, black-and-white “Pasha” checker seat inserts with tan/cognac leather bolsters, tan dash and door panels, and plush tan carpet.

Interior inspiration: Animoya Garage’s Pasha-interior 928.
